Background

BioSurfaces, Inc. was originally established as a sole-proprietorship on April 28, 2003 in Ashland, Massachusetts in response to development of several new promising technologies. The company became an S-Corporation in April of 2008. Ashland, which is a town rich in history and technological discoveries, is the birthplace of the electric clock. The company, which is 25 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts and 20 miles east of Worcester, Massachusetts, is located within one of the leading biotechnology areas in the United States.

The company was founded by Mr. Matthew D. Phaneuf, a biochemist, who serves as President and Chief Technical Officer. There are several key members of BioSurfaces, Inc. Mrs. Tina M. Phaneuf, a textile chemist, serves as Vice President of Administration and Finance for the company. Mr. John B. Hughes serves as Chief Financial Officer of the company.  Martin J. Bide (Professor in the Department of Textiles at the University of Rhode Island), Frank W. LoGerfo (Distinguished William V. McDermott Professor of Surgery at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center), Michael S. Conte (Chief of Vascular Surgery at the University of California (San Francisco)), and Philip J. Brown (The J.R. Swetenburg Sr. Endowed Chair Professor in Engineering in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson University) serve as the scientific advisory board for the company. The investigators, with backgrounds in industrial, biomedical and academic research, have been working in this field for many years, having a total of over 90 years experience. BioSurfaces, Inc. has primarily been involved in design and development of novel biomaterials via surface modification as well as in new polymer designs.
