Matthew D. Phaneuf, B.S.: Mr. Phaneuf, President and Chief Technical Officer at BioSurfaces, Inc., founded the company in April 2003 based on several promising research projects. Mr. Phaneuf received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biochemistry from University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth in 1989, performing undergraduate research for the department. Following graduation, Mr. Phaneuf began his research career in the Vascular Surgery Research Laboratory at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, serving as the Assistant Director (1989-2005). During this period, Mr. Phaneuf also helped to establish the Massachusetts small business research and development company BioMod Surfaces in 1998 (1998-2005). Mr. Phaneuf was responsible for procuring several small business and NIH grant awards for his research interests for both institutions during this period. Mr. Phaneuf has over 40 peer-reviewed publications and presentations related to biomaterial modification and characterization. Mr. Phaneuf is also an inventor on several patents and has received several awards for his research. Mr. Phaneuf is currently a member in several biomaterial organizations such as the Surfaces in Biomaterials Foundation, Society of Biomaterials, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists and the American Chemical Society. Mr. Phaneuf also serves as the Biology Editor for the Surfaces in Biomaterials Foundation and as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research and AATCC Review.

Tina M. Phaneuf, B.S.: Mrs. Phaneuf is the Vice President of Administration and Finance at BioSurfaces, Inc. Mrs. Phaneuf received her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Textile Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth in 1989. Following graduation, Mrs. Phaneuf began her research career as a Project Leader at the Navy Clothing and Textile Research Facility in Natick, Massachusetts. During her employment, Mrs. Phaneuf obtained extensive experience with chemical warfare garments with her work on the military program entitled Joint Service Lightweight Integrated System Technology (JS-LIST). In this program, Mrs. Phaneuf performed several physical testing procedures such as wear testing, tensile strength and shade matching. Additionally, Mrs. Phaneuf was also responsible for obtaining new technologies for material testing and served on the safety committee of the facility.

John B. Hughes, E.A.: Mr. Hughes serves as the Chief Financial Officer of BioSurfaces, Inc. Mr. Hughes has been a respected member of the Massachusetts business community for almost three decades. He began his career by spending eight years working for the Internal Revenue Service as an auditor. In 1982, he went into private practice setting up his own Tax Advisory firm. John has been preparing individual and business tax returns for over twenty-five years. He serves a loyal client base of over 1500 individuals and 40 plus partnerships and corporations.
