Senior Research Team
Saif G. Pathan, B. Tech: Mr. Pathan serves as Director of Research and Development at BioSurfaces, Inc. Mr. Pathan completed his bachelors degree in textile engineering (B. Tech) from U.I.C.T India in 2002 and is in the process of completing his Ph.D. in Materials Science from Clemson University. Prior to attending Clemson University, Mr. Pathan was employed by Arvind Mills Ltd for a year, serving as a manufacturing manager where he developed dyeing recipes and post-dyeing treatments for knitted fabrics. At Clemson University, the topic of his dissertation will be “Electrospinning of a Small Diameter Vascular Graft”. As a graduate student at Clemson University, Mr. Pathan has received “The Rising Star” for outstanding graduate student in 2006 and J.T. Barton Ethics Essay prize in 2007. He has presented this research at various conferences. Mr. Pathan is currently a member of American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) and Material Research Society (MRS).
Jason Z. Hu, M.S.: Mr. Hu serves as a Research Associate at BioSurfaces, Inc. Mr. Hu completed both of his Bachelor of Science (2009) and Master of Science (2010) degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. As an undergrad student, Mr. Hu developed an in vitro model system for testing the effect of biomolecules on cell-derived-tissue-constructs. This work was funded by NIH, and published in “Cells Tissue Organs”. For his senior design project, Mr. Hu and his teammates created a localized cell-delivery system. This work won the second place in the WPI Project Presentation Day. As a graduate student, Mr. Hu studied methods that increased the mechanical strength of tissue-engineered constructs. Prior to joining BioSurfaces, Inc. Mr. Hu was employed by Shire HGT, serving as a manufacturing engineer, where he oversaw and supported upstream cell culture processes. Mr. Hu was inducted into several honor societies including Sigma Xi, a national honor society for individual with research achievements. In addition, Mr. Hu was an American Heart Association Undergraduate Summer Research Fellow.
David W Nelson, B.S.: Mr. Nelson serves as a Research Associate at Biosurfaces, Inc. Mr. Nelson completed his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Biomechanics and a minor in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in 2009. For his WPI senior design project, in collaboration with doctors at Umass Memorial Medical center, David and his engineering team designed, manufactured, and tested a tension-controlled compression bandage applicator to improve the quality of compression garment treatments in the clinic. After graduation, David was employed as a Systems Engineer at IneoQuest Technologies, Inc., a video metrics and network intelligence company, for two years. There he instructed and trained field engineers as well as managed a production team.
